PhD Project

Recently, my interests have moved toward thin film physics. My PhD project aims to establish the feasibility of employing diamond-like carbon (DLC) thin film coating technology for the protection of several alloys, particularly for naval applications.

Interests

  • Thin film deposition and characterisation

  • Plasma physics

  • Diamond-like carbon (DLC)

  • FTIR spectroscopy

  • Scanning electron microscopy

Brief work history

BSc (Chemistry) University of Paisley

PgCert (Information Technology) University of Paisley

I have spent several years in various sectors of industry both in the UK and abroad, including:

  • Air analysis via FTIR spectroscopy, particulate measurement, electrochemical sensors

  • Colorants, polymer resins and additives for the imaging and inks industries

  • Cytotoxic pharmaceuticals
